In 1969, Reckitt & Colman (now Reckitt Benckiser) launched the original product known as Lem-sip nationally across the UK. It was the first medicated hot lemon drink to be specifically developed to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu.
During the 1970's the ingredients were reformulated to create a more palatable flavour and the packs were redesigned to include the famous sword and circle image. The name was changed from Lem-sip to Lemsip, and to help consumers understand more about the product, the packs began to feature the ingredients list.
In the late 1980's a blackcurrant flavour Lemsip was added to the range.
In 1990 we launched our first capsules – and by late 1993, during a flu epidemic, Lemsip had become a major cold and flu brand.
More exciting variations followed in the form of Max Strength products and in 2006 different Max Strength formulations for day and night-time symptoms. The first Lemsip All in One product was launched a year later.
